They said he would be fine, but different,
my grandchild with the small deletion
on his 17th chromosome. Such a tiny part
of the whole like a tainting mouse bite
taken from a loaf of crusty bread.

Perhaps that bite held the gene for sadness,
He is now seven and sunshine.
